Altered Earth: Poster Series
The purpose of this project was to develop an effective visual design system that seeks to unify differing components of a system yet instill excitement through its innovative representation of meaning. This project focused on the manipulation and arrangement (composition) of typography and image as it conveys messages through a poster series. Students developed three posters that persuaded viewers to attend a series of events. Each poster aims to communicate the meaning of a person's work contribution.
For my project, I chose to create a poster series for the hypothetical event: "Altered Earth: Poetic Perspectives on Planetary Shifts". I used this prompt to dive deep into my poets and create a series highlighting them and promoting their voices. Below is my process to the final result.
Research and benchmarking
Before starting my process, I did research on the poets as well as benchmarking for ideas of what type of posters I wanted to create.

Design sprints
After researching what I wanted to portray in my posters, I went through a series of 'sprints' to get myself creating things that could be used for future posters. These consisted of photography, physical type manipulation, arrangement of elements, sketches, collage, and more.

Directions & Ideation
Once I had some different sprint outcomes, I moved into the digital space. I took elements from the previous stage and combined them to create new poster-like 'directions'. I then used a few of these to start making actual posters. After creating some, it was clear which direction worked best.

Refinement and critique
After much thought and critique, I chose to create my posters using physical type manipulation I had made earlier on. Below are the iterations for each poet's poster following this direction.

Final Posters
Below are the final poster images for each of my three poets.
